Continued from "Doubting God's Goodness":
"Lord, don't you care?" Like Martha, we have our questions. Like Martha, we have our doubts. Our friend Martha was on the right track that day in Bethany. While her bristling, abrasive approach is hardly the best model, there are still several important lessons we can learn from her gutsy encounter with Christ. First, we can bring our needs to Jesus anytime and anywhere. "Ask and it will be given to you," Jesus said in Matthew 7:7. Second, Jesus really cares abut what concerns us. "Cast all your anxiety on him," 1 Peter 5:7 tells us, "because he cares for you." Finally, Jesus loves us enough to confront us when our attitude is wrong. "Those whom I love, " says the Lord, "I rebuke and discipline" (Revelation 3:19). And that is what the Savior did with Martha. He intuitively understood Martha's pain, but that didn't stop him from telling her what she needed to hear. And Martha, to her credit, listened. Because when you have questions, there is no better place to go than to the One who has the answers.
