For Saturday-A New Mind

Continued from "The battlefield of the mind":
It's been my experience that God won't usually take away our "friends," those things we look to for comfort-even if those friends aren't good for us. We must be willing to release them ourselves. And until we do, the battle for the mind will rage on. I'd allowed my worry to lead me by the poisoned waters of doubt. My fears had made me lie down in green pastures of self-pity. Instead of gnawing on my problem, I trained my mind to chew on the promises of God. And as the Holy Spirit and I brought back the Word to remembrance, something exciting happened. Anxiety fled in the face of truth, and peace-the kind of peace that quieted the disciples' raging storm-came to take its place. The kind of peace only Jesus can give. Peace, be still.
