Open Eyes

The mighty deeds of God are everywhere. Our trouble is that we don't see them. Here is a very childish "revelation" which came to me one day: Maybe the reason we don't have praises to give God is that we try to praise Him with our eyes closed. When we open our eyes and look around, we find all kinds of things to thank the Lord for. Where in the Bible does it say we must close our eyes to pray? I did a quick dash in my mind from Genesis to Revelation- I didn't find any such rule. It's not there. In fact, the Bible shows the opposite; Psalm 121 says, "I will lift up my eyes to the mountains." Jesus began His last prayer by "lifting up His eyes to heaven" (John 17:1). It is true that sometimes we need to close our eyes and look deep inside ourselves. But when we praise God, we are reaching outside, and we find many more things with which to fill our praise boxes as we look around. Fill your empty boxes with new words and new songs. Praise Him for His mighty deeds.
